Devil's Food

They caught me on a day when my sweet tooth was acting up, and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and so I bought a large jar of Nutella for a very good price. I hadn't bought one since my kids had grown.

I usually have something or other sweet in the fridge or cupboard, so I rarely get caught with my fingers in the Nutella jar. Time passed, and I started to worry that it would spoil before I finished it.

A few minutes, ago, I figured I could use a snack, and in one of those rare moments, I had nothing appropriate. So, I opened the "old stand-by", and peered inside. By golly, it still looked like the day I bought it, save for the parts around the rim, and even that looked like it was just a bit dry. I spread some on some toast, and it did the trick.

Let me let you in on a little secret--this stuff is a miracle food. I bought this product well over a year ago; probably 18 months ago! And I followed the directions: "Do not refrigerate". I just checked the ingredients to see WTH chemical(s) is/are maintaining the moisture, colour, taste, and texture of this unGodly stuff. There's barely any chemicals in it!

Thank God, it's almost finished. I should be done eating the last of it in about six months or so. I just had a vision of my body on a coroner's table, and someone saying "He ate two year old Nutella--did him in".

I'm feeling a bit older, today

Okay, now I feel old. I just read that Keanu Reeves, that dumb kid from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, is 55 years old. Ugh.
Apparently, he is now officially dating his business partner, 46-year-old Alexandra Grant.

Toronto Skyline

A lot of people do not appreciate the magnificence of the Toronto skyline. The casual observer sees a tall tower surrounded by a small cluster of mediocre, nondescript buildings. What is not immediately (or at all) apparent is the "tallness" of the CN Tower, and in fact some of the buildings nearby.

For example, if you look at the following photo, and find the baseball stadium to the left of the tower, you wouldn't guess that a 31-story building could be entirely enclosed in that stadium, would you?

The tallest building in Toronto, soon to lose that distinction it has held since 1975, is First Canadian Place. It's the white building in the photo, and it is 72 storeys. Four taller skyscrapers are planned, one of them already under construction. It will rise 1,012 feet.

At 1815 feet, the CN Tower will still tower over anything else the engineers design for a long time to come. It was completed in 1976, and for thirty years, was the tallest structure in the world.

My brother-in-law, Leonardo, had a hand in its construction, as he was a welder. Here he is posing in front of the antenna top immediately before completion. He's the one with the moustache. just left of centre, front.
