I'm feeling a bit older, today

Okay, now I feel old. I just read that Keanu Reeves, that dumb kid from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, is 55 years old. Ugh.
Apparently, he is now officially dating his business partner, 46-year-old Alexandra Grant.

Toronto Skyline

A lot of people do not appreciate the magnificence of the Toronto skyline. The casual observer sees a tall tower surrounded by a small cluster of mediocre, nondescript buildings. What is not immediately (or at all) apparent is the "tallness" of the CN Tower, and in fact some of the buildings nearby.

For example, if you look at the following photo, and find the baseball stadium to the left of the tower, you wouldn't guess that a 31-story building could be entirely enclosed in that stadium, would you?

The tallest building in Toronto, soon to lose that distinction it has held since 1975, is First Canadian Place. It's the white building in the photo, and it is 72 storeys. Four taller skyscrapers are planned, one of them already under construction. It will rise 1,012 feet.

At 1815 feet, the CN Tower will still tower over anything else the engineers design for a long time to come. It was completed in 1976, and for thirty years, was the tallest structure in the world.

My brother-in-law, Leonardo, had a hand in its construction, as he was a welder. Here he is posing in front of the antenna top immediately before completion. He's the one with the moustache. just left of centre, front.

Bocconcini

These egg-sized, moist mozzarella balls are bocconcini. They literally translate to "small mouthfuls". Buon apetito!

Eve of Destruction

No destructive force on earth is more powerful than the strength and resilience of the American People. -President Donald J. Trump

He finally said something right. There is no frce more destructive than America. Ask the families of one million dead Iraqis. Ask the families of the countless targets of drone attacks, many of them innocent bystanders. Ask the EPA. Ask the climate...

Las Vegas mass murder

Anyone else find it amusing to watch how left and right scramble to paint the Las Vegas shooter as a member of the other side? It really doesn't matter which side he was on. folks, because one thing we know for sure, is that he was mental as anything. And trust me--there's just as many lefty mentally ill as there are righty mentally ill. This is one argument whose point is definitely moot. Which brings us full circle.

The larger, and more important issue is why this mass murder problem is so prevalent in America, like nowhere else. If Second amendment proponents are right (correct), that it has little to nothing to do with firearm availability, then one must concede that there is something in American culture that nurtures conditions for these occurrences (more so than other countries). Your exercise for today, is to think of the ways that American culture is most different from other cultures. In these personal inquiries, hopefully, you'll find some answers. I encourage you to share your thoughts after this exercise with any non-American friends for maximum value. Oftentimes, people on the outside looking in have a different perspective.
